Body Beast Week 1 Day 5/block 1 = build shoulders! I really like that one. I cleared out the dining room storage space today so lots of stairs with weights (totes) plus trick or treating with the little fellas plus only 1 serving of veggies (thankful for my shakeology!). I'm BEAT!!

3. & 4. Dinner out: salad (with ranch), guacamole (with chips), onions (with breading. What? LOL) & a veggie burger with broccoli. :)


We had our Halloween party today at the co-op, crazy day!! The little fellas had a blast! 


Body Beast Week 1 Day 3/block 1 = skipped the formal workout to move 1000 pounds of new to us weights into our space. :)

What is the shelf life of Shakeology?

Now, I don't know how ANYONE doesn't need a new bag at the end of every month. Because we are mega shakeology lovers over here! 
But, I was recently asked how long shakeology is good for. There IS a best by date on the side of the bag so you should start there. But, just in case. Here's the official answer. :) 

What is the shelf life of Shakeology?

The shelf life of Shakeology is now 1 year from the time of manufacture. To ensure you always get Shakeology in its most potent state, and at the peak of freshness we decided to shorten the shelf life (the "best before" date on packaging) from 2 years to 1 year.

If unopened, Shakeology should ideally be consumed within one (1) year; however, if opened, ideally within one (1) month.

I was asked recently about the vegan shakeology formula change after a friend had been overly gassy from trying it a while back. So, I thought I would share my findings where. :)

Why a reformulated Vegan Shakeology?
After getting feedback from coaches and customers, Beachbody set out to improve the texture and flavor of Shakeology's Vegan flavors and created a new and improved Vegan formula! The vegan shakes now have a smoother, creamier consistency and improved flavor. Chocolate Vegan now has more cocoa for an even more intense chocolate flavor and Tropical Strawberry Vegan has succulent guava.    To ensure the new formula is great, a panel of coaches and customers gave their stamp of approval on the delicious new Vegan formula.

What are the new benefits?
New benefits consist of: improved, smoother texture and consistency; reduced grittiness; the same sweet taste, but with reduced sugars

What was added to the new Shakeology formula and why?
Added:Oat Protein

Why:Organic Agave Fruit powder is a wholesome, non-GMO, ingredient that imparts a sweet flavor which also contributes prebiotic fiber.  Although Shakeology was originally very low in sugar, this upgrade also lowered both the total sugar content slightly, as well as carbs.  As with most fruit, Agave contains fructose and has the added benefit of being naturally high in inulin, a prebiotic fiber, to support digestive health.  Unlike many of the cheaper sources of agave on the market, that use low quality materials and are enzymatically treated (similar to high fructose corn syrup processing) the organic agave used in Shakeology is naturally extracted without enzymes or chemical additives.

Removed:Wheat grass, Oat grass, Kamut grass, and Barley grass
Why: Due to future concerns about the ability to source reliable and consistently efficacious green grasses, they are being removed from Shakeology formulas.  We've increased Spinach, Spirulina, and Chlorella and added Kale.  These ingredients provide similar nutritive benefits found in grasses and also help to alkalinize the body and promote detoxification for health and vitality.  
Removed:Sacha Inchi

3. Two veggie burgers with hot cheese topped with bell pepper & onions (I didn't eat the onions, I'm weird - the smell & essence on the food is good but I don't like to actually eat them, lol)

4. Plain yogurt with frozen peaches 


I don't know if it's in my head or from really giving the workouts my all. But, I'm feeling actual hunger. That hasn't happened in a while!

The fruit fly fight.

We've all battled these bastards. The fruit fly. 
I could NOT get them to go away & they seemed to be multiplying. 
So, I asked my amazing friends on Facebook for some tips. I implemented what I could -- for some reason, I don't have simple things onhand like bleach? Weird. 

I cleaned the crap out of the house! With the little fellas, you never can tell what type of things are hidden where. So, scrubbing & searching & NO fruit/food/anything out of the fridge. Which didn't matter much because they were so thick, they even penetrated the fridge! GAG! 

I tried the vinegar -- alone, with dish soap, with rotting fruit: caught a few but didn't really help a ton. 


I tried wine -- this one was fun because I was able to drink the leftovers. Ha! The wine caught NONE! Maybe I needed a different type? 


I tried peppermint oil (again, no bleach so I used what I had) in the drains & plugged them up! This made the house smell amaaaazing. I love peppermint oil (especially when I'm not using it for mice, lol). So, this might become a regular habit. :) 


I hesitate saying this because they've been taunting me. BUT, I think they're finally gone!  Now, which of these brilliant ideas finally did the job? I have no idea. LOL I'm just glad those suckers are GONE!! 

Here's a list of the brilliant tips I received from my awesome friends, sharing just in case you need help with these monsters, too.  ;) 

"did you clean the garbage disposal (if you have one)? They love to breed down there. Put a stopper in there except when you're using the sink to run water."

"Rachel,  the remedy is cider vinger in a little glass with a splash of oil on top. Fruit fly death trap."

"Oh we have them Amelia has put these little containers of beer with plastic wrap around them held with rubber band poked holes in the plastic is catching them."

"Use yeast! Apparently it's the fermentation of the rotting fruit or whatever that feeds the young fruit flies. Yeast with a little sugar to activate. We've been going about this all wrong"

There were a TON more but FB hid the post from me. I'll edit as soon as I regain access. :) 

Edited to add: I found a rotten chunk of orange in the workout room! So, I guess none of these really worked?? Simply time fossilizing the fruit seemed to do the trick? LOL I do feel better having done the peppermint oil in the drain & plugging it up though! And, the house still smells awesome! ;)

Ok, ok I've been all over the place lately but I've finally chosen a program. I'm DOING Body Beast, for real. I'll be subbing Insanity & Piyo live workouts on BB cardio days because I need to practice if I ever hope to get started teaching. 
Week 1 day 1 -- lets do this! Back & tris complete! 
Lunches packed for tomorrow, too! Robs been slacking on the nutrition end of his program but we're going to do this right! #BOOM

3. YES! I was hungry! I got wrapped up in a huge unpacking project & lost track of time. We have..... plain yogurt with peanut butter & maple syrup, frozen peaches, bell peppers, popcorn with real butter, & vegan chocolate shakeology with 2 bananas  


Happy Sunday! We got a ton done around the house today. 


Fitness = Insanity!!!! Omg, that felt amazing. I took video of myself & have a looooong ways to go. I'm committed to more frequent practice!

Hit the grocery store today! Prepped bell peppers, carrots, cucumbers and celery! There will be soup this week. So excited to get back on track & start to feel better! :) 


Week 2, day 2 of the Piyo/T25 hybrid schedule = Body Beast bulk chest with Rob. Much needed. I might do some combat tomorrow if co-op doesn't turn it into a rest day, lol

Photo journal, no fitness

10 months & 5days!! of changing my life! 

PIyo/T25 hybrid = week 2 day 1


1. Vanilla shakeology, peanut butter, banana, ice, & water -- #vitamix not required, this fella does a great job! 

2. Breakfast out before hitting the road back home: greek (tomatoes & feta) omelet with home fries & toast  

3. I ALMOST made all good choices today. I needed caffeine to finish the drive & I got nothin' to explain the lemon pound cake 

4. Came home to homemade spaghetti with green beans & garlic toast. #homesweethome


Grocery store tomorrow! I love to visit but I'm glad to be home & anxious to get back on track. 


Week 2, day 1 of the Piyo/T25 hybrid schedule = took another rest day. It was needed. Back at it tomorrow!

1. Vegan chocolate shakeology, peanut butter, banana, ice, & water with a donut (wth?)

2. Lunch after spreading grandmas ashes: bean burrito, sour cream, guacamole & chips 

3. Hot fudge sundae 

4. Cheers!

5. I won't even write it. 


I WISH I could do a 3 Day Refresh, I could REALLY use it right now!! 21 Day Fix resumes this week, it'll help. Homebound tomorrow!
